This document summarizes a clinician’s published review and reflects expert opinion rather than peer-reviewed evidence. Specifications are as reported at the time of publication (January 2026) and may change.
1. Overview
The Medit i900 Mobility (i900 M) is a wireless intraoral scanner that, according to Dr. Al-Hassiny, retains the optical system and scanning performance of the wired i900. It is described as the first iPad-native scanning solution among mainstream intraoral scanners.
Scanning runs in a dedicated iPad application, Medit Link Express, rather than in a browser or an adapted desktop program. This summary focuses on what differs from the Medit i900 Classic: the wireless hardware and the iPad software.

2. Hardware Characteristics
Characteristic |
Reported Value |
Weight |
242 g excluding battery and tip; approximately 319–328 g with battery and tip |
Connectivity |
Wi-Fi 6E, directly to an iPad or laptop; Bluetooth used for initial pairing |
Battery |
About 1 hour of continuous scanning per charge; about 2 hours to recharge; three batteries supplied |
Field of View (Large Tip) |
18 × 15 mm (14 × 13 mm on Medit i700) |
3. Connectivity
The scanner connects to an iPad over Wi-Fi only, and no separate wireless hub is needed. It is first paired via Bluetooth, then joined to the clinic network. A Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot connection is required but does not need to be fast. Dr. Al-Hassiny reported a stable connection with no noticeable lag or dropouts on a network above 600 Mbps. USB connection through the cradle does not apply to iPad use.
4. Scanning Optics & Tips
Dr. Al-Hassiny argues that a larger field of view reduces the number of images required, shortening scan time and reducing cumulative error compared with smaller tips, particularly in full-arch implant cases. He reports no noticeable performance penalty from the wireless implementation, and accuracy matching the wired i900, including in full-arch implant scans using horizontal scan bodies.
5. Software
- Medit Link Express (iPad): New, simplified scanning application. Post-processing occurs on the iPad, and cases sync with the user’s Medit Link cloud account. Case setup is workflow-based (Restoration, Implant Scan, or Ortho Scan).
- Medit Link (Desktop): Full software suite, including Medit Model Builder, Medit ClinicCAD, Medit Smile Design, Medit SmartX, Medit Splints, and Medit Orthodontic Suite. Cases scanned on the iPad open in it after synchronization.
- Current Limitations: Applications are not yet available on the iPad, and a case created on the iPad cannot be edited or rescanned in the desktop software.
- Medit AuraVue: Web-based consultation application that displays intraoral scans and radiographs alongside AI-generated diagnostic findings for decay, calculus, and bone levels, with shareable PDF or QR-based patient reports. Findings are generated by Overjet’s system, not by Medit. Currently available only in the U.S.
6. Observations & Limitations
- Reported Performance: In Dr. Al-Hassiny’s testing, the iPad application was responsive and fluid during active scanning, and he judged it better than the same software on his Windows laptop.
- Reported Problems: Occasional software glitches occurred during testing, which Medit was addressing through updates.
- Constraints: Wi-Fi is required for iPad use, calibration is still needed, scanner size and weight exceed those of competing wireless devices, and applications are available only on the desktop.
7. Target Audience
Ideal for:
- Clinicians who want wireless scanning with the optics of the wired i900.
- Practices that want iPad-based scanning with cases synchronized to their Medit Link cloud account.
Consider the i900 Classic if:
- You rely on Medit Link applications that are not yet available on the iPad, or need to edit or rescan iPad-created cases on the desktop.
- Reliable Wi-Fi or a hotspot is not available, or scanner size and weight are a priority.
8. Final Thoughts
The Medit i900 Mobility combines reliable scanning performance with an intuitive, iPad-native workflow. While its size and premium price may not suit every practice, it offers a compelling option for clinicians seeking greater mobility and flexibility in digital dentistry.
